To get your silvervine smelling it's best use a potatoe peeler to peel off a bit of the outer bark to get it smelling fragrant.

WHAT IS SILVERVINE?

Silvervine (Actinidia polygama) is a deciduous climbing vine grown in the high mountainous regions of eastern Asia. It produces clusters of fragrant, creamy white flowers which bloom in the summer and bears a fruit similar to kiwi. Silvervine gets its name from its long, dark green 6 inch leaves with silver tips.

HOW WILL SILVERVINE AFFECT MY CAT?

Silvervine is known to elicit euphoric responses in most cats. Some cats but not all will become very active and frolic around behaving like kittens, where others may relax into silly positions as if in a dream like state. These effects usually last between 5 and 30 minutes. Typical behaviours may include rolling, chin and cheek rubbing, meowing, drooling and licking.

All cats can use Silvervine however, similar to catnip, each cat will have a different range of reactions some might not react. Kittens (less than 8 months old) and pregnant females may not have any reaction to silvervine.

Like catnip, Silvervine is a non addictive, non toxic plant that can benefit feline health by relieving stress and anxiety. Cats chewing on silvervine sticks is said to also improve dental health, as your cat nibbles it can help exfoliate plaque from their teeth.

STIMULATING PLAYTIME IS IMPORTANT FOR FOR CATS

Playing with your cats is an important part of maintaining their health and your bond with them. Luckily, they love to play! Providing opportunities for solo play is particularly important for indoor cats, especially if they spend much of the day alone.

Kittens and adult cats are both stimulated by the same sort of games, though kittens don't require a great deal of encouragement to get started. Cat play is almost entirely about simulating behaviour associated with hunting.

Cats have a strong instinctual desire to stalk and catch prey so you'll find you have the most success if you can mimic the actions of something they are likely to hunt.
